It is because you didnt compile your program using debugging flag (-g)

I tried your code with -g option and it shows the line number

Edit: Using -Wall will not compile this program as it has warnings. So that means your CFLAGS are not used while compiling.

Try changing yor makefile as below:

CFLAGS= -g
TARGET = ex4
ex4: $(TARGET)
$(TARGET): $(TARGET).c
    $(CC) $(CFLAGS) -o $(TARGET) $(TARGET).c
clean:
    rm -rf ex4

It worked for me using above makefile. Google about makefiles to learn more.
