我认为问题在于node['java']评估到nil.

一种可能的解决方案是node['java']['install_flavor']在说明书或节点定义或相关角色定义中定义属性。

但这看起来像是食谱中的一个错误，因为文档说默认值应该应用于该install_flavor属性。

这绝对看起来像一个错误。对于那些有类似问题的人，我建议只使用 java::openjdk。
