You are setting the trigger time to System.currentTimeMillis(). This causes the alarm to fire right away. Try this instead:

long triggerTime = System.currentTimeMIllis() + (1000 * 60);
alarmManager.set(AlarmManager.RTC_WAKEUP, triggerTime, pendingIntent);
