You should subclass SQLiteOpenHelper to avoid DB creation errors. This handles all db creation, update and checking for existence issues - without doing it yourself. Also, it will create the DB file in the default recommended path.

The following can be a DB open helper class you can use in your code.

    public myDbHelper(Context context, String name, CursorFactory factory,
            int version) {
        super(context, name, factory, version);
    }
